WELCOME TO OUR

PARENTS' CORNER

As a licensed Family Child Care Educator, I would like to congratulate you on choosing a licensed Family Child Care.  You have made an important child care decision for you and your family.  The Department of Early Education and Care (EEC) and I invite you to join in a partnership with us to ensure a high quality child care environment.

EEC is the agency that oversees the early education and care and after school services for families in Massachusetts.  As the agency that licenses child care, EEC has quality standards for all licensed programs to ensure high educational value, as well as health and safety.  Having a license means that I have demonstrated that I meet the standards outlined in the EEC regulations.

I encourage parents in my day care to maintain an open dialogue with me, as communication between parents and Educators is the foundation for a solid working relationship, and a good child care experience.

Please call me to set up an appointment to come view my child care.

CHILD GUIDANCE

When it comes to interactions and guiding of children’s behavior, the goal of all Educators is to maximize the growth and development of children, as well as keep them safe.  My Child Guidance Policy is as follows:

I maintain a positive discipline policy, which focuses on prevention, redirection, love, consistency and firmness. I stress two main patterns of behavior: respect for other people and respect for property. The children are explained the rules of the day care frequently, so they are all familiar with the guidelines. Please keep in mind that there will be disagreements between children. Young children have a hard time expressing their feelings. Sometimes they hit, throw toys, bite, etc. I will try to prevent problems, redirect when appropriate, discuss inappropriate behavior, encourage making amends when offense involves another person, and sometimes withdraw privileges based on the principle of "natural consequences".  An example might be where a child is misusing a toy then he/she will not be allowed to play with the toy for a period of time. The use of time outs will be rare except when a brief cooling off period is needed. Sometimes when children are fighting or throwing toys, we will put the toy in a short time out, and then bring it back into circulation a little later. This seems to work better than giving the child a time out. I use positive reinforcement and rewards for good behavior.

If I feel there is a chronic behavioral issue that needs attention, I will let you know so that you and I can discuss it and work together on handling it in the same way so your child has continuity in discipline between our homes. These types of behavior might include such things as biting, chronic hitting, etc. Together we will try to find a solution.
